The model 84 is a blowback operated pistol with medium frame. Design of this model is similar to the model 92 that is intended to increase the reliability of the firearm. Other features of the 84, also called Cheetah include for instance an aluminum alloy frame, reversible magazine release, and an ambidextrous frame-mounted safety. The Beretta 84 is a good example of well constructed semi-automatic, double-action, blowback-operated pistol, that is chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge.

The “80” model line of Beretta is a new generation of compact pistols that appeared in 1976. The models are 81, 82, 84, 85 and 87. They have many similarities in appearance, major dimensions and design. They have differed in calibers and magazine capacities.
